How often are the precipitation
maps generated? The Daily Precipitation maps for the current
day are generated every 10 minutes throughout the day (until 5pm).
Older maps are redone once every night.
What about snow and hail
maps? Hail maps are generated when a hail report is entered
and regenerated once every night. Snow maps are generated whenever
the webmaster gets around to it right now. If you really want to
see snow maps for a certain day, please feel free to contact the
webmaster to let them know.
Why doesn't my data doesn't
show up on any of the maps? If you are new to NeRAIN, it
might be that we don't have your longitude and latitude entered
into our mapping system yet. Since maps are only created every 10
minutes, you may need to wait a bit and check again. It is also
possible that we have incorrect longitude and latitude for your
station. If that is the case, please contact your
Regional Coordinator.
The maps also only include data that is collected between 5am and
8:59am. If you read your rain gauge later in the day, then your
data won't be mapped, however it is still in our data base. The
last thing that can keep your data from mapping is if you entered
your station number incorrectly or swapped your station name and
number.
Why does my station need
to be in the mapping system? We have programs that draw each
of the maps using your longitude and latitude to plot your data.
These programs use a data file that contains all of our known stations
and their locations. If your station isn't in this data file, we
can't locate where your data came from therefore your data won't
be mapped. When you join the project it may take time before we
know your longitude and latitude and even more time before that
information gets to the webmaster and gets entered into the necessary
data files.
I entered 3 days worth
of data and only one shows on the maps? Since older maps are
only generated once a night, you have to wait one day to see data
entered for previous days appear on the maps.
If my station isn't entered
into the mapping system, is my data being lost? No, all data
entered is written to our data files. As soon as your information
is entered into the mapping system, your data will begin appearing
on our maps (within one day).
Why do my maps look small
using Internet Explorer? Internet Explorer version 6 will automatically
re-size the graphics to fit into your window. If you hold your cursor
over the image for a second or two a box will arrows will appear
that can re-size the image. If you want a permanent fix, go to Tools
-> Internet Options, select the "Advanced" tab, scroll
down to the Multimedia category and un-check the box labeled "Enable
Auto Image Re-sizing" and click OK.
Why do my maps look
small using Netscape 7.1? The latest Netscape will automatically
re-size the graphics to fit into your window. If hold your cursor
over the image a small circle with a "+" sign will appear.
Clicking within the image will change the image to real size, clicking
again will shrink the image back to fit your window. To permanently
fix this "feature" go to Edit -> Preferences, click
on the "Appearance" item in the menu on the left, un-check
the box labeled "Resize large images to fit in the brower window",
and click OK.
